About Where the River Rises

As the Boom family begins a fourth year of living in their 93 year–old barn, a terrible drought has Northland in its grip. The land turns brown, the Great River of Narnia falls, and the animals begin to suffer. As the relentless drought continues, thirteen–year–old Milly begins to think the rains will never come. But meanwhile there is a homestead to be finished and adventures to be had. There are calves to rear, gardens to plant and endless firewood to be collected.

By the time the drought finally breaks and the river rises again, The Ruins have been transformed into a home crafted with love, blood, sweat and tears. Milly can hardly wait to move in. The time has finally come to leave the barn and begin a whole new adventure.

Where the River Rises is the fourth and final book in the multi–award–winning Barn Chronicles Series, by New Zealand author Rosie Boom. The previous volumes, Where Lions Roar at Night and Where Arrows Fly both won the Australasian CALEB Prize for Best Children’s Book in 2010 and 2011, and volume 3, Where the Crickets Sing was a finalist in the same award in 2012.

About the Author

Rosie Boom is a wife and homeschooling mother of six children, living in rural New Zealand. Her passion is to encourage and inspire others.  Over the years, Rosie has mastered the art of communicating this passion through songwriting and singing, and public speaking. But her marvelous books, The Gift of Values (1 & 2) and The Barn Chronicles Series (4 volumes) have traveled farther afield than either time or money enable her to go in person.

The eight members of the Boom family live on a small homestead in Whangarei, New Zealand. Rosie and her husband Chris have been married for over 30 years.  They met about the time Rosie had traveled to Borneo to be involved in missionary work.  Much of her childhood was spent in Papua New Guinea, where her parents were missionaries, in what she fondly recalls as a fantastic childhood – weird and wonderful pets, jungle clubs, huts by the river, and exploration of all kinds. But they returned to New Zealand and she later completed nursing training and served in hospitals for a number of years, before commencing her writing.
