Thomas Clarkson

The Giant with One Idea

Thomas Clarkson lived during a time in history where it was legal to own another person: a time when slavery was allowed!  When Thomas was studying at university, he became convinced that slavery was wrong and that God had called him to fight against it.

Thomas’ main task was collecting evidence to prove the evils of slavery.  He worked night and day, making long, perilous journeys to testify against the horrific treatment of slaves and and sailors. Working alongside men like William Wilberforce, Thomas finally saw the slave trade abolished in 1807. Then, in 1833, slavery officially became illegal in the British Isles.

Slavery is still something we face in today’s world.  To continue to fight against it, find out how men like Thomas Clarkson gave their lives to that cause.
