About the Author

Ethel Barrett (1913-1998) was a speaker, author, radio and television personality as well as a Christian educator, whose influence was enormous in her times. Her 40+ books sold well over four million copies and continue to sell. She did over 30 beloved audio recordings for children. Her storytelling days began as a Sunday School teacher at her New York church in the 1940s.  It was so difficult to hold the attention of boys, she began to tell the Bible stories using character voices and going into the full conversation, which really held their attention.  That class launched her into the weekend radio broadcasts which were heard across the nation.

She was even nominated for a Grammy Award in 1978 in the category of “Best Record for Children”, for her album Ethel Barrett Tells Favorite Bible Stories.

Testimony from her son Gary Barrett:

“She often tried out her new stories on my brother Stephen and I when we were kids, to see if they worked. They did!  My mother had Scottish forbears, so when she came across information on the great preacher John Welch, she ran with it. She just had to write a book about this amazing Scottish character!”
