Eric Liddell: Finish the Race
$8.99
As a young child Eric Liddell lived in the exotic climate of China. His parents worked there as missionaries, teaching the good news of Jesus. Eric’s life from then on brought him to boarding school in England, university in Edinburgh and the fame of Olympic Stardom in Paris.
But with that fame came trouble as he struggled to stand up for his Christian faith. Eric’s strong belief in keeping the Lord’s Day as a day of worship was challenged when his 100 metres race was scheduled for the Sunday. Eric’s strength of conviction and his subsequent win in the 400 meters have made him a hero and a role model for many young men and women.
But his life was so much more than winning races — his whole life was a race for God. This took him back to the country of his birth – China. This country became the country of his death in a Prisoner of War camp. The man who became known affectionately as the ‘Flying Scotsman’ in the end lived and died in China – thousands of miles from his native land and his athletic conquests.

Maud Kells: Fearless in the Forest
At 25 years of age Maud Kells went to the Congo as a medical missionary with WEC International. She went to replace others who had been recently martyred. Years later she herself found herself close to death on the floor of her own operating room. A rebel soldier’s bullet went straight through her and only the Lord’s grace and her presence of mind saved her life in the end. Pushing her back against the wall to stop the flow of blood, she gave herself enough time for other medical staff to come to her aid.
This is the story of a young Irish girl who went to Africa despite her family’s objections due to the crystal clear call on her life of a God who assured her, ‘I am with you I am all you need’. Maud found that out to be absolutely true in all circumstances.

John Chrysostom: The Preacher in the Emperor’s Court
There was something about John Chrysostom and the words he spoke that lit up his world.
He was an important leader of the early church, known so much for his preaching and public speaking that he was given the nickname Golden Mouth. He spoke his mind and followed his convictions. He refused to host the lavish social gatherings that his predecessors had laid on. This meant that John Chrysostom really annoyed the wealthy citizens of Constantinople. He spoke out against how many influential Christians cared little for the poor

Thomas Cranmer: The King’s Ambassador (David Luckman)
Too often, we want our heroes to have no faults. We want them to do the right thing, standing tall, with no stain on their life or character. But everyone makes mistakes. The life of Thomas Cranmer shows that God uses failures in his church for his own glory.
He moved amongst Kings and Queens, influencing the throne of England and the center of national power. But he lived at a time when the power of the monarch was absolute and sometimes the decisions you made were a matter of life and death.
Thomas Cranmer’s life is perhaps best known for a decision he made that he later regretted and deeply repented of.

Olaudah Equiano: A Man of Many Names (Emily J. Maurits)
A little ten year old boy played with his sister as the adults of his village attended to their chores. What happened that day would separate them forever – sending the young boy thousands of miles away from everything and everyone he had ever known. Kidnapped into slavery, Olaudah was forced to work for others. His life was no longer his own. Olaudah had lost everything. His country, his family, his freedom and even his name.
But although he was given other names by people who saw it as their right to own him, the ten year old boy eventually grew up and obtained his freedom. He claimed back his name in order to write his own memoir as part of the fight against slavery.
Olaudah Equiano may have been a child who lost everything, even his name – but he came to know the joy of forgiveness in Christ, and the true freedom that comes with trusting in Jesus’ name.
