Customer review:
A delightful read!
“Jack the Conqueror by C.E. Bowen is a delightful read! The author wastes no time in hooking the reader into the 1896 life of orphaned Jack Harold’s poverty stricken life. Forced to live with his aunt after his parents died he spent most of his time outdoors along the picturesque banks of the river because she cared nothing for him and saw him as a huge inconvenience.
Befriended by a local artist and a few caring adult neighbors, Jack found out that God indeed had a good plan and purpose for his life as he grew up in Bushgrove. With God’s help he persevered over tremendous hardships. With willful resolve and sheer determination he not only learned how to earn money to pay for school but he became a well-educated respected boy and adult man in his own hometown village. There’s no doubt without the kind help of God fearing, and morally upright female neighbors, Jack’s ability to conquer difficulties and become successful one step at a time as a young kid growing up in poverty would not have been possible without the help and encouragement of significant Godly people in his young life. I give this 1896 Biblical based character building story five brilliant stars!”
“My husband and I read to our seven year old son. We strive to find stories that support a biblical foundation with integrity and encouragement. We love how this story unfolds and as the main character learns to maintain honesty and cheerfulness as he perseveres through each difficulty he encounters in life.” — Carrie Beauchamp, Folson, California

About the Lamplighter Rare Collector’s Series
Lamplighter stories are much more than good and wholesome reading for the family. The inspiring role models found in Lamplighter books show a child that outward compliance alone will not carry a child through the stresses and disappointments soon to be faced in adolescence and adulthood, nor are they a substitute for faith in Christ. As we learn of perseverance, courage, loyalty, humility, these are qualities to emulate and pursue, but as children read in stories of others like them trying their best and falling short, they will powerfully learn their need for the gospel. Though life is often not easy, we can be confident that each disappointment and trial is designed by a loving God for our good.
Lamplighter books are carefully designed to draw children back to the Bible, to ensure that each story reflects the character of God. Often, key Scriptures are referenced so that they may be stored in a child’s heart. Lamplighter volumes are recognizable right away by their beautiful, high-quality bindings. But the other unique feature of a Lamplighter book, in contrast to other publications of the same title, is that the Lamplighter editions have been enhanced with helpful footnotes and woven with threads of Biblical truths that will be etched into an awakened moral conscience. These characteristics are what make our Lamplighter Collection so unique and highly valued.
