She became a hymn writer and singer, longing to share the love of her Saviour. Books flowed from her pen at a later stage, often beginning as bedtime stories for her nephews and nieces.
Born a pastor’s daughter in 1836, Frances was a talented student who had much opportunity to learn and develop her many natural skills. When Christ became the center of her world, she gave herself and her talents to be wholly His, until her early death at the age of 42.
While she lived, Miss Havergal was one of the most well-known and well-loved Christian writers in the English language, both for her ministry, in song, pen, and in person. The Lord fruitfully blessed her with great insight into spiritual truth, having the wonderful fragrance of Christ in her life.
Her hymns still echo through the church today, among them: Take My Life and Let It Be and Like a River Glorious.
