The Resistance

A Story of World War II

Lt. Eli Evans, B-17 bomber pilot, is shot down over enemy-occupied France in 1944. Surrounded by Resistance fighters, a licensed-to-kill SOE British agent, and Marxist sympathizers, Evans and his navigator must evade a ruthless Nazi manhunt if they are to survive. True to form, Douglas Bond delivers yet another historical novel sure to capture the hearts and imaginations of both the young and the old. Readers will thrill at the high-stakes, fast-paced cat and mouse game that ensues among downed Army Air Corps pilot Eli Evans, navigator Charlie Tucker, and the Waffen SS.

The timing of events and diversity among the characters kept the tension hovering at or above an 8 on a 0-10 scale. From the moment the B-17 crashes, until the invasion of Normandy; time (and pages) seem to fly by.

Recommended for age 10 to 13 years old.

Endorsements

“What Douglas Bond has written in The Resistance is very fine. Realistic? Very much so. I used to think those guys flying up there in the Army Air Corps were lucky, but they lost more men than we did on the ground.”

— Alan Fothergill, World War II veteran, 90th Infantry Division, Utah Beach, 1944

“If you enjoy inspirational war stories, flying, intrigue, mystery, and intense anticipation, you will love Douglas Bond’s new book. Not only is the action non-stop, but the thoughtful dialogue throughout the tale keeps you mentally engaged on every page.”
— Douglas Lee, Brigadier General, USA (Ret), President, Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty

“Action from beginning to end. Anything Douglas Bond writes is a fascinating read.”
— Joel Belz, founder, WORLD Magazine

The Resistance was the eighteenth book by Douglas Bond that we have read aloud (and many re-read aloud!) with our now eight children at every age and stage. ‘And that’s the end of the chapter’ always meets the response ‘please read more!’ What a treasure to have so much literature that keeps them at rapt attention and has produced so much fruitful discussion. Even their father has grown much, mentally and spiritually, in these priceless family times.”
