“Take my feet, and let them be, swift and beautiful for Thee.” — from Frances Ridley Havergal’s hymn
Perhaps no other reading emboldens Christians more than that of Christian biography. In particular, the battle stories of those who have served well in the conflict to advance the gospel in the world. Swift and Beautiful tells the amazing stories of twelve men and women who at great cost gave their lives to take the gospel of God’s grace to those who had never heard.

Some of these faithful missionaries are well-known names, such as David Brainerd, Mary Slessor, David Livingstone. Others are named that have been almost forgotten. But all are worthy of our emulation.
‘How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”’ (Isaiah 52:7)

Kanousky, the Indian Boy, and David Brainerd, the Indian’s Missionary
Two stories in one volume: First, read of Kanousky, whose circumstances of life are tragically altered, but discovering the truth about Jesus so transforms his life, he can later look back with gladness on the changes he was forced to endure.
The second story is of David Brainerd, briefly introducing young readers to the labors of one of America’s most persevering missionaries, unstoppable in his zeal to reach the American Indian.
The grace of the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, and how seeks and finds His lost sheep is the theme of the first story about Kanousky, a poor Indian boy who survives a battle and ends up lost and alone. In his need, he stumbles upon some farmers who called themselves “Christians.” God’s Word makes a lasting impression on Kanousky’s life, that grows throughout his trials and adventures, and soon, “though he was lost”, he soon regards himself as “found by the Lord.”

Radiant: Fifty Remarkable Women in Church History (Richard Hannula)
Radiant records the triumph of the gospel as Christian women faced kings and governors, soldiers and wild beasts, Japanese guards and Muslim raiders, fire, exile, the chopping block, Nazis, cannibals, riots and more.
“Look to heaven and forsake the world” has been their cry for 2,000 years. But being “spiritually minded” didn’t make these women soft or weak — it made them invincible!
From South America to Europe, from China to Africa to the Wild West, in prisons and in throne rooms, the Christian heroines of Radiant have left a stunning legacy. These short and moving biographies for young people introduce the reader to 50 often unfamiliar champions of the faith.
