Family Worship
In my formative years as a child, I never even heard of one family who practiced anything slightly resembling the idea of family worship: that is, for parents to open the Bible and read it aloud with their children, and pray together. But since the 1990s, all evidence is that there has been a little revival of this practice among Christian families.
Still, many fathers are either reluctant to lead in this, or feel ill-equipped to know how. So few of us had any example of a Dad doing so in our home. These resources have been proven to be valuable helps for family worship and include resources in the form of Bible instruction, catechisms, and even songs well-suited to convey biblical truth to the heart of a child.

The Westminster Shorter Catechism Songs – Full 4-CD set (Holly Dutton)
The complete set of all four CDs by Holly Dutton, based on the questions and answers of the Westminster Shorter Catechism: a song for each of the 107 questions!
These CDs are the ingenious creation of Mrs. Holly Dutton, who apparently and clearly understands that we all learn material by heart better when there’s music to go along with it. Memorization always comes easier with musical accompaniment! Add to this the factor that your children don’t normally speak in the sentence structure designed by the writers of the Westminster Shorter Catechism.
So Holly has designed these simple melodies with acoustic guitar, featuring the questions and answers, verbatim, of the Westminster Shorter Catechism in musical form. With her own melodious voice, the songs will be simple and engaging for children and adults to sing comfortably. This project is also a must-have for Bible college and seminary students who want to master the doctrine of the Shorter Catechism! You know that music makes truth more stick-able to you, too – it’s not just for little children.
Each question and answer is sung and played through twice on the CD.

Wonders of His Love: Finding Jesus in Isaiah, Family Advent Devotional (Champ Thornton)
Advent is the perfect time for families to gather together and celebrate the birth of Jesus. Using pictures of Jesus from Isaiah’s prophecies—the Light, the Branch, the Shepherd, and the Savior—brings to life the true meaning of Christmas.
Hundreds of years before Jesus was born, God spoke to his people through the prophet Isaiah, promising them a Savior. To communicate God’s message, Isaiah used striking, stunning, and surprising imagery—the “wonders” of his love! Isaiah pointed God’s people to the future, when one day, through his birth, death, and resurrection, Jesus would deliver his people from sin and sorrow forever.
Perfect for busy families with younger children, each week of Advent focuses on one of Isaiah’s images and has readings related to the week’s theme—Jesus the Light; Jesus the Branch; Jesus the Shepherd; Jesus the Savior—and, on Christmas Day, Jesus the Bread. Each week also includes fun stories, discussion questions, crafts, recipes, games, and suggestions for family service projects.
Written by Champ Thornton and illustrated by Jeremy Slagle, this four-week devotional will draw families closer to Jesus and to each other.
