Discipleship
Before those who trusted in Christ were ever called Christians, they were originally dubbed and known as disciples – that is, followers of Christ, ones who commit to Him as Savior, Lord, and declare their intent to obediently follow His teachings. The path of discipleship is one we choose at the outset of the Christian life, but it is an ongoing journey, a path we continue on as we are ever learning more about faithfulness to Him and about our own needs and sins. In this section of Grace & Truth Books, you’ll find some books that speak primarily to your own walk with God, and others that are intended to help you come alongside your brothers and sisters, to “disciple” or mentor them.

Courage: How the Gospel Creates Christian Fortitude (Joe Rigney)
Exploring Courage in Light of the Gospel
Throughout Scripture, important biblical figures have faced numerous adversities with remarkable courage. In the New Testament, the apostles endured persecution, imprisonment, and even death for spreading the good news of the gospel. Yet, amid their struggle, they continued to expand the kingdom of God—even rejoicing as they suffered for Christ. How can believers exhibit this same courage today?
In Courage, author Joe Rigney explores the Christian virtue of fortitude and its connection to the gospel. From a theological perspective, Rigney argues that courage—used in the proper context—is a sign of God’s salvation and a believer’s faith in Christ. In this concise and practical book, readers will defeat feelings of anxiety, anger, and fear as they gain boldness from God to endure all of life’s circumstances.

JESUS (Lisa Harper)
Valley or mountain top, do you ever wonder what “walking with Jesus” actually means in everyday life? Unfortunately, thinkers like A.W. Tozer are right when saying, “For millions of Christians, God is no more real than He is to non-Christians. They go through life trying to love an ideal and be loyal to a mere principle.” The good news for us is that Jesus is not a proposition to be studied, He’s a divine Person with whom we get to engage! Instead of simply obtaining more spiritual information about our Savior, sometimes we just need to remember what a miracle it is to be invited to get to know Him personally.$17.99 -

Knowing Sin (Mark Jones)
We don’t talk a lot about sin these days. But maybe we should. The Puritans sure did—because they understood sin’s deceptive power and wanted to root it out of their lives. Shouldn’t we want the same?
Though many books have been written on the “doctrine of sin,” few are as practical and applicable as this one. In Knowing Sin, Mark Jones puts his expertise in the Puritans to work by distilling the vast wisdom of our Christian forebears into a single volume that summarizes their thought on this vital subject. The result isn’t a theological tome to sit on your shelf and gather dust, but a surprisingly relevant book to keep by your bedside and refer to again and again. You’ll come to understand topics like:
- Sin’s Origin
- Sin’s Grief
- Sin’s Thoughts
- Sin’s Temptations
- Sin’s Misery
- Sin’s Secrecy
- and of course . . . Sin’s Defeat!
None of us is free from the struggle with sin. The question isn’t whether we’re sinful, it’s what we’re doing about it. Thanks be to God, there is a path to overcoming sin, in Christ.
