Genesis Studies

The study of the Book of Genesis is vital and central to all sound biblical interpretation.  So much of what comes later in the Word of God ends up reliant on roots that were established in the first book of the Bible, and how God intended things to be.  When you read Romans, Galatians, Hebrews, or even many of the teaching of our Lord Jesus, the connection reaching back to Genesis is often both evident and significant.  This variety of resources on the Bible’s opening book will help you dig into it, whether via commentary, survey, or volumes that focus on one particular era of the book, such as creationism, Adam & Eve, the flood or the life of Abraham.  There’s even a Journible on Genesis here, through the assistance of which you can write out your own copy by hand.

  • Glass House (Bodie Hodge , Ken Ham)

Evolution is a model, hypothesis, idea, belief, or a worldview – it is not a theory, a law, a fact, or the truth. God’s Word is the truth. Darwinian evolution as an explanation for human origins is a philosophy that raises its fist at God, but ultimately fails scientifically.

A powerful team of credentialed scientists, researchers, and Biblical apologists take on the pillars of evolution in Glass House: Shattering the Myth of Evolution. The truths they reveal decimate Darwin’s beliefs using a Biblical and logical approach to evidence.

In our culture, atheists and many Christians have been deceived into believing evolution is a solid foundation. Glass House answers evolutionary claims, puts them to the test and demonstrates how they shatter. Written for laymen, Glass House addresses the origin of life, natural selection, mutations, missing links, the religious nature of evolution, and many more evolutionary myths.

Ken Ham (CEO and founder), Bodie Hodge (author and researcher) and the team of scientists at Answers in Genesis offer you a fresh look at the major arguments currently put forward to support molecules-to-man evolution. This cutting-edge book dismantles evolution argument by argument and is written at a level even a teen can understand.

  • The Lie (Updated Edition) (Ken Ham)

We live in an anti-God culture pushing contagious, destructive philosophies. How will you and future generations uphold the truth of God’s Word? In this updated edition of The Lie: Unraveling the Myth of Evolution/Millions of Years, Ken Ham reveals how evolution and millions of years have undermined belief in the Creator God with an eternally significant cost.

Addressing critical issues like gender, sexuality, abortion, racism, and the exodus from the church, this book is essential for Christians seeking to defend their faith and run their race with a steadfast fear of the Lord. Originally published in 1987, The Lie foresaw the trend of questioning the Bible’s authority. With biblical answers and practical advice, this book prepares parents and believers to boldly face a secular world. The Lie empowers Christians to boldly believe the Bible, reject vain imaginations, and stand against the schemes of the one known as the father of lies.

  • Genesis (John Calvin)

Because Calvin was a sound exegete, little of what he wrote is dated. In Genesis, although his treatment of the early chapters is thorough, it is not disproportionate, and the later narratives concerning Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph are not passed over hastily. Indeed, Calvin excels in bringing out the principles of God’s dealings with men, as individuals and in covenant, and in showing faithfully, yet tenderly, the human weakness and sin all too evident in Genesis.

  • In the Beginning: Listening to Genesis 1 and 2 (Cornelis Van Dam)

Do the opening chapters of Genesis constitute real history?

Concerned with an apparent shift among conservative scholars to answer in the negative, Cornelis Van Dam argues that reading Genesis 1 and 2 as history is not only justified but necessary. Van Dam clarifies the different roles that ancient Near Eastern literature and scientific theories should play in our understanding of the Bible as he carefully deals with the exegetical details of the first two chapters of the Bible.

Pastors, students, and church leaders will find In the Beginning an informed guide that will restore their confidence in the complete reliability of the Genesis creation account.

    GENESIS (Journible 2-volume set)

These are the two Journibles volumes for writing your own copy of THE BOOK OF GENESIS.

In Deuteronomy 17:18, future kings of Israel were commanded to not simply get a copy of the law, but to hand-write their own copy, for themselves.  Centuries later, educators have discovered that students who write out their own notes by hand have a much greater retention rate than simply hearing or reading. Our God knew this long ago! With this idea in mind, the Journibles series has emerged.

Each book is organized so that you can write out your very own copy of Scripture. Yes, you are the scribe in these volumes! You’ll write the Bible text on the right hand page of the book. On the left side, you are given space to write your own notes and comments.

  • Bone of Contention (Sylvia Baker)

First published as a series of articles in 1976, then in magazine format, this work has been completely revised and updated with new diagrams incorporating current information. Always intended to be understandable to the general reader, this book covers the reasons why a conservative (young earth), biblical view of the creation of our world fits the evidence found in fossils and the world as we see it.

Easily read by teenage children, but has enough information to satisfy an inquiring adult. Fossil evidence is examined, along with genetics and a chapter on the age of the earth, and an overview of the consequences for human history. There is a useful bibliography including helpful websites.

  • When God’s Plan in Marriage is Broken (Ralph Bouma)

Sermon by Pastor Ralph Bouma of Grace Chapel, Conrad, Montana: on Matthew 5:31-32, concerning divorce and adultery.

It hath been said, ‘Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement’. But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery; and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.”
