Pride and His Prisoners (A. L. O. E.)
Pride is an imprisoning sin. In this excellent story, Pride is personified as a demon which holds most of the inhabitants of an English parish in captivity and forces them to do his bidding. The lives of the characters demonstrate pride in one way or another, and finally results in a near-catastrophe during a hot-air balloon ride! A convicting story with a powerful point for us all!
But not all is lost, for the prisoners of Pride are at last released from his bondage and relationships are restored. Written originally in 1869, the story is timeless as, in every era, we all need a good dose of humility!
A. L. O. E. was the pen name for prolific British writer Charlotte Maria Tucker, which stood for “A Lady of England.”

From Pride to Humility (Stuart Scott)
God has given us a model of humility in the person of Jesus Christ. His most stunning attribute is that of humility; in light of that, the most stunning sin of ours is pride, and certainly the most detestable to God. Pride is a form of self-worship, but often appears in our lives in the most subtle ways.
This little volume will show you numerous ways in which pride may break out in your life, but also suggests how we might pursue humility with the help of the Holy Spirit.
