John Jasper: The Unmatched Black Preacher (William Hatcher)
The acclaimed biography of the life and ministry of John Jasper – the extraordinary preacher of the 19th-century South, who labored not for civil rights or political activism, but for Christ. Crowds of all races gathered to hear this slave preach!
Jasper began to preach the gospel as a slave in Virginia. About half of his preaching career was as a slave and half was as a free man. He had no formal education or seminary training, but was legendary in his time. He often drew large crowds to his meetings of both the black and white race. Governors, judges, legislators, and “learned” white ministers were greatly moved by the power of Jasper’s preaching.
The Sixth Mount Zion Church in Richmond, Virginia stands to this day as a memorial to John Jasper, and nearby is his grave which is marked by a splendid monument. This book was written by Rev. William E. Hatcher, who heard about Jasper and went to hear him preach out of curiosity. He went back again and again and continued attending for twenty years, forging a close friendship with the black preacher, out of which grew his desire to write this biography.

The War Between the States: Study Guide (John J. Dwyer)
Few events in America’s history have been as influential – or as complicated – as the bloody war between our Southern and Northern states. No other event has so vividly underscored our strengths and weaknesses as a people and as a nation, and no other event has so changed our citizenry and our government.
In order to more clearly explain this conflict, John J. Dwyer has compiled documents on the development of social and religious ideas that preceded secession and war. The battles are described in detail and strategic context, depicting their effect on soldiers and civilians alike. At the war’s conclusion, there were further changes to society, attitudes, and legislation.
This study guide is provided to accompany the 700-page hardcover book The War Between the States: America’s Uncivil War. Exercises are provided for each of the book’s 38 chapters. Features include detailed chapter summaries, lists of identification terms and fill-in-the blank completion exercises, timeline exercises, suggestions for essays, and thought questions.

The Dairyman’s Daughter (Legh Richmond)
One of the 19th century’s most well-read stories for girls. Over three (3) million copies sold before 1900. Read this once and you’ll wonder why you never heard this story before. Told by her pastor, Legh Richmond, it’s the story of young Elizabeth Wallbridge, who came to be known as “The Dairyman’s Daughter.”
A child of a poor dairy farmer in England, Richmond met Elizabeth in 1798 upon his arrival as the new minister on the Isle of Wight. He learned from her of a proud past in which she forsook all love of her family, but then of the sweet love of Christ which was formed in her and the shining testimony she became as a witness for Him with her holy life. Richmond regarded Elizabeth as “one of the best-versed persons in the Scriptures” whom he had ever met and considered meeting her one of the highest privileges of his life.

The Negro Servant and The Black Prince (Legh Richmond)
Two 19th century stories of lasting value, combined for the first time in one volume. Each tells of the work of the grace of God in the lives of young men. One, born into royalty (The Black Prince) comes to know and love Christ.
The other, living in slavery (The Negro Servant) comes to know the same Savior.
But what different plans God has for each of their lives! Holding the power of royalty will not prevent God from humbling us, if He wills, and being enslaved will not hinder Him from exalting us, if that is His plan.
