About Author Richard Newton
Charles H. Spurgeon gave author Richard Newton the title, “The Prince of Preachers to the young.” Richard Newton, D. D. (1813-1887) was born in Liverpool, England in 1813, but came to America and was educated at the University of Pennsylvania. He then served as an Episcopal rector in Philadelphia for many years. In addition to thirty volumes of children’s sermons, he wrote Illustrated Rambles in Bible Lands, Five-Minute Talks for the Young, Heroes of the Early Church, Heroes of the Reformation, and numerous other works for youth.
