Survey of the Bible

A Treasury of Bible Information

Unlike many Bible surveys, this one has been designed to put the individual books of the Bible into a historical framework. This approach is sure to increase the reader’s understanding of each biblical book and its significance. As its subtitle claims, Survey of the Bible is a veritable “treasury of Bible information.”

This valued volume belongs on the bookshelf with such basic reference works as a study Bible, a concordance, and a Bible dictionary. After brief chapters on how to study and interpret the Bible, Survey of the Bible offers an overview of Bible history (which is also summarized in seven chronological charts), followed by an introduction to the 66 books of Scripture.

The latter are divided into 21 groups, and these groups are treated in chronological, not canonical, order. Illustrating the text are 32 photographs and 18 lists, charts, diagrams, and maps. This comprehensive volume also contains study questions for each chapter, section by section, and it is fully indexed.

Endorsement

In this book, Dr. Hendriksen, gives the reader the needed tools to not only understand the Bible but to understand it’s context. He gives the reader memory helps to fix the Bible’s Old Testament and New Testament time lines firmly in the readers mind. Dr. Hendriksen encourages the memorization of the names of the books of the Bible and more: he encourages one to memorize the topic and outline of each of the books. I have always suspected that I have needed to do just that as many of the books of the Bible tend to blur together.
